As-Saffat: (170) *But they disbelieved in it, so they shall come to know...*

The fa (ف) in His saying—Exalted be He—"But they disbelieved in it" (fa-kafaru bihi) is fasiha (an expository particle revealing an omitted antecedent), similar to the fa in His saying—Exalted be He—"Strike with your staff the stone, and it parted." That is: A Reminder came to them—and what a Reminder! The master of all reminders, and a Book presiding over all other books and narratives—yet they disbelieved in it.

"So they shall come to know."

That is: the consequence of their disbelief and the retribution that will descend upon them. It is also said that by "the Reminder," knowledge was intended; that is: "If only we possessed a knowledge from those who preceded us—regarding what God—Exalted be He—did with them after they died, whether He rewarded them or punished them—we would have been sincere in our worship of Him." Then that (knowledge) came to them in the Magnificent Quran, yet they disbelieved in it. However, the remoteness of this interpretation is not hidden.
