Surah As-Saffat 37:174



ﲭ ﲮ ﲯ ﲰ

So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time.

{So turn away from them for a time}

"So turn away from them" means: turn aside from them and be patient, "for a time," meaning until the end of the period of refraining from combat. As-Suddi said: until the Day of Badr, and At-Tabari favored this view.

It has been said: until the Day of the Conquest [of Makkah], and prior to that was the truce of Hudaybiyyah. Ibn Jarir and others reported from Qatadah that he said: until the day of their death. At-Tabarsi narrated this from Ibn Abbas as well. Ibn Zayd said: until the Day of Resurrection. This, along with the preceding [interpretation], is apparent in that the [divine] support is not restricted solely to what occurs in this world.
