ﱷ ﱸ ﱹ ﱺ
For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.
Tafsir
Verse range: 37:61
That is: for the attainment of such a majestic affair, the workers ought to work, and not for the worldly gains that are swift to perish and tainted with various kinds of pains. The prepositional phrase is placed at the beginning for the purpose of restriction (hasr).
If this is an indication of a specific entity in terms of its specificity, then the word "like" (mithl) is not redundant (muqhamah). If it is an indication of the genus, then it is redundant, as in the expression: "One like you does not act stingily."
The statement may be a continuation of the speaker’s words, and it is not undermined by the fact that the Hereafter is not a place of work, for the intent is not to command work within it. It is also possible that it is a statement from Allah, the Exalted.
