Then We drowned the disbelievers.

{ Then We drowned the others }
That is, those who were different from Noah (peace be upon him) and his family, and they are all the disbelievers of his people. The word "then" (thumma) here denotes a sequence involving a time delay (tarakhi), because the survival of Noah (peace be upon him) and those who were with him occurred after the drowning.
