Tafsir
Verse range: 39:26
"So God made them taste disgrace" (meaning: humiliation and abasement) "in the worldly life" (such as transformation, being swallowed by the earth, slaughter, captivity, expulsion, and other varieties of torment. The fa is explanatory, similar to its usage in the words of the Exalted: "So We responded to him and saved him"). "But the punishment of the Hereafter" (prepared for them) "is greater" (due to its intensity and eternity) "if they only knew" (meaning: if it were their nature to know anything, they would have known this and taken heed from it).
