Indeed, We sent down to you the Book for the people in truth. So whoever is guided - it is for [the benefit of] his soul; and whoever goes astray only goes astray to its detriment. And you are not a manager over them.

Az-Zumar: (41)

(Indeed, We have sent down to you the Book for the people) meaning for their sake, for it is the locus of their interests in this life and the Hereafter. (with the truth) This is a state (hal) referring to the object of "We have sent down," or to its subject; meaning We have sent down the Book while it is accompanied by truth, or while We are accompanied by truth. (So whoever is guided) by acting upon what is in it, (is only for himself) for he benefits his own self through it. (And whoever goes astray) by not acting according to its dictates, (then he only goes astray to its detriment) because the burden of his misguidance is limited to his own self. (And you are not a manager over them) to compel them toward guidance; your duty is nothing but communication, and you have communicated—meaning a complete communication.
