Az-Zumar: 58

(Or [lest] it should say when it sees the punishment: "If only I had another turn" — meaning a return to worldly life — "so that I might be among the doers of good") in belief and action.

(لَوْ) [If] is for wishing. (فَأَكُونَ) [So that I might be] is in the accusative case as a response to it [the wish]. It has been permitted in Al-Bahr [Al-Muhit] that it is in the accusative case by way of conjunction to (كَرَّةً) [a turn], as it is a verbal noun (masdar). Thus, it would be like his saying:

*And there is naught for me regarding it save mentioning it and [having] regret, and asking about its riders: where did they head?*

And the saying of the other [poet]:

*And wearing a cloak and my eye being cooled [by it] is more beloved to me than wearing translucent garments.*

Then he said: The difference between them is that if the fa (ف) is in response to a wish, then the an (أن) is wajib (obligatory) to be concealed, and the "being" (الكون) is contingent upon the attainment of the wish, not that it is [itself] the wish. And if it is for conjunction to (كَرَّةً), then both an and its concealment are permissible, and the "being" is the wish [itself].
