Give tidings to the hypocrites that there is for them a painful punishment -

(Give glad tidings to the hypocrites that they shall have a painful punishment.)
The word "give glad tidings" (bashir) is placed in the position of "warn" (andhir) as a form of mockery towards them; thus, the expression contains a mockery metaphor (isti'arah tahkamiyyah). It is also said that it is in the position of "inform" (akhbir), in which case it is a figurative metonymy (majaz mursal) of mockery.
