Verse range: 43:23
"And likewise"—meaning, the matter is as has been mentioned regarding their absolute inability to provide evidence and their clinging to the tail of blind imitation (taqlid).
And His saying, Exalted is He: "We sent not before you any warner to a township, except that its affluent ones said: 'Indeed, we found our forefathers upon a path, and we are, in their footsteps, followers.'"
This is an inaugural statement clarifying that, indicating that blind imitation among them is an ancient misguidance of their predecessors, and that their earlier generations also possessed no supporting evidence to be considered. The specification of the "affluent ones" with that assertion is to signal that luxury and the love of indolence diverted them from reflection toward blind imitation.
