So we took retribution from them; then see how was the end of the deniers.
Tafsir
Verse range: 43:25
The literal implication of this is that the retribution was through the punishment of total annihilation. The author of al-Bahr interprets it as retribution through drought, killing, captivity, and exile.
Ubayy, Abu Ja‘far, Shaybah, Ibn Miqsam, al-Za‘farani, and others recited it as (aw law ji'nakum — "or if We had brought you") with the [plural] "nun" of the first person [We], which supports the view We have adopted. The command to observe what the state of the deniers ended in is a consolation to him, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and a guidance to not be concerned by his people’s denial of him, upon him be blessings and peace.
