Az-Zukhruf: (41) "So whether We take you away..."

(So whether We take you away) meaning, if We cause you to die before We show you their punishment and heal your chest and the chests of the believers (then We will take vengeance upon them), inevitably, in this world and the Hereafter. Some have limited it to the punishment of the Hereafter, due to His saying, the Exalted, in another verse: "(Or We cause you to die, then to Us they shall return)," and the Quran explains itself. However, what we have mentioned is more complete in benefit and more consistent with the absolute nature of the vengeance; as for that [other] verse, it does not contain mention of it. The "ma" (in "fa-imma") is an augmentative particle for emphasis, and it functions similarly to the oath-particle (lam) in soliciting the emphatic nun.
