How much they left behind of gardens and springs

Tafsir

Ruh al-Ma'ani

Verse range: 44:25-26

Open in Qurani

[25] How many gardens and springs they left behind.

[26] And crops and honorable stations.

"How many" means: they left behind a great deal in Egypt, including gardens, springs, crops, and an honorable station—meaning a place that is beautiful and noble in its kind. It is intended by this, as narrated from Qatadah, the beautiful places such as assembly halls, dwellings, and others.

Ibn Abi Hatim narrated from Ibn Abbas, and Ibn Marduyah from Jabir, that it refers to pulpits. This has also been narrated from Mujahid and Ibn Jubayr. It was also said: [it means] couches within curtained chambers. The first [interpretation] is more appropriate.

Ibn Hurmuz, Qatadah, Ibn al-Sumayqa', and Nafi' in one narration of Kharijah read "maqam" (station) with a damma on the mim (muqam).
