Tafsir
Verse range: 44:36
{Bring our fathers [back], if you are truthful.}
[Bring our fathers]: This is an address directed toward the Messenger (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and the believers, whom the [disbelievers] promised with resurrection. That is, "Bring us those who have died from among our fathers, if you are truthful in your promise," so that this might serve as proof of your veracity. The indication of certainty is either for the mere [fact of] resurrection after death, or because they would ask them [the fathers] about it. It is said: They requested of the Messenger (peace be upon him) that he supplicate to Allah the Exalted to bring Qusay ibn Kilab back to life for them so they could consult him regarding the validity of the prophecy and the resurrection, as he was their elder and their advisor in times of calamity.
