Tafsir

(Then pour over his head from the torment of the scalding water)
The original structure is: "Pour the scalding water over his head." Then, it is said: "Pour over his head a torment that is the scalding water," for the sake of hyperbole by making the torment identical to the scalding water, as it is a consequence of it, and to render it as a tangible, poured substance. Then, "torment" is attributed to "the scalding water" for [the purpose of] specification (takhsis), and "min" (from) is added to indicate that what is poured is a portion of this type. Thus, there is either a representation (tamthil), an explicit metaphor (isti'arah tasrihiyyah), an implied metaphor (makniyyah), or an imaginative metaphor (takhayyuliyyah).
(That is: and it is said, or say to him that by way of mockery and reproach for what he used to claim.)
'Abd al-Razzaq and others narrated from Qatadah who said: When the verse "Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Hellfire" was revealed, Abu Jahl said, "There is no man between the two mountains [of Makkah] more powerful or more noble than I." Thereupon, Allah the Almighty said: (Taste; indeed, you are the honored, the noble).
