Al-Jathiya: (26) Say, "Allah gives you life..."

Say, "Allah gives you life" (as an inception), "then He causes you to die" (upon the expiration of your appointed terms, according to what the proofs indicate, not as you claim). "Then He will assemble you for the Day of Resurrection" (meaning, on that day). It is permitted that the verb be understood as implying the meaning of "resurrected," "terminating," or the like; the most manifest meaning is that He will assemble you on the Day of Resurrection, "there is no doubt about it" (i.e., regarding your assembly, for He who is capable of the beginning is capable of the repetition, and wisdom necessitates this assembly for retribution, without fail, on that day. The true promise [attested] by the verses indicates its certainty. In summary: Resurrection is a possible matter, foretold by the Truthful [Allah], and required by wisdom; everything of this nature is inevitably occurring. Bringing back the ancestors, however, since it would contradict legislative wisdom, its occurrence is impossible).

"But most of the people do not know."

(This is a corrective clause stemming from His saying, "there is no doubt about it." It is either part of the speech [the Prophet] was commanded to deliver, or a statement put forth by Him—Exalted is He—to establish the truth and draw attention to their doubting as a result of their ignorance and their deficiency in contemplation and reflection, not because it contains even a trace of doubt.)
