Tafsir of Al-Jathiyah 45:36

This is a derivation from what the noble Surah contains. It encompasses the bounties and favors of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, includes cosmic and self-evident signs, and comprises brilliant proofs and illuminating texts regarding the origin and the return.

The lam (in lillah) denotes exclusive ownership. The predicate is placed first to emphasize it. The definite article in al-hamd (the praise) denotes either the inclusion of all categories or the genus of praise. The sentence is a declaration of His, the Exalted’s, entitlement to what the term signifies. It is also permissible that it is intended as an invocation (performative), and the completion of the discussion has preceded in [the commentary of] Al-Fatiha.

In the aforementioned derivation, according to some prominent scholars, there is an indication that their disbelief does not affect His Lordship, nor does it block the path of His benevolence and mercy—and who can block the path of a pouring rain? They have merely wronged themselves.

Proceeding with the attributes that follow serves as evidence for His entitlement to praise and His exclusive right to it, may He be glorified and exalted. His saying, "Lord of the worlds," is an appositive (badal) to what preceded it. The repetition of the word "Lord" serves as an emphasis and an announcement that His Lordship over everything is by way of origin. Ibn Muhaysin read it in the nominative case (rabbun), as an expression of praise, with the implied meaning of "He is [the Lord]."
