ﱳ ﱴ ﱵ ﱶ ﱷ ﱸ ﱹ ﱺ ﱻ ﱼ ﱽ ﱾ ﱿ ﲀ ﲁ ﲂ ﲃ ﲄ ﲅ
Those are the ones from whom We will accept the best of what they did and overlook their misdeeds, [their being] among the companions of Paradise. [That is] the promise of truth which they had been promised.
Tafsir
Verse range: 46:16
(Those): This is a pointer toward "the human," and the plural form is used because what is intended is the genus characterized by the aforementioned meaning. The distance implied by the demonstrative pronoun (in the Arabic ula'ika) serves to signify the remoteness of their status and the loftiness of their rank. That is to say: those described by the magnificent attributes previously mentioned.
(from whom We will accept the best of what they have done): This refers to their acts of obedience, for that which is merely permissible is "good," yet one is not rewarded for it.
(and overlook their evil deeds): This is due to their repentance, which is signaled by the phrase "I have turned in repentance." Otherwise, according to the People of Truth (Ahl al-Haqq), the forgiveness of a sin, in absolute terms, is not dependent upon repentance.
(among the inhabitants of the Garden): They are existing among them, arranged in their ranks. It has also been said that "among" (fi) here carries the meaning of "with" (ma'a), but that is not the preferred interpretation.
(a truthful promise): This is the verbal noun of an implied verb, serving to emphasize the content of the sentence preceding it; for the words of the Glorified—"We will accept and We will overlook"—constitute a promise from Him, Mighty and Majestic is He, of acceptance and forgiveness.
