Muhammad: (32) Indeed, those who disbelieved...

(Indeed, those who disbelieved and averted (people) from the way of Allah and opposed the Messenger) meaning they became in a side other than his side, and the intended meaning is that they showed him enmity (after the guidance had become clear to them) by what they witnessed of his description—upon him be prayer and peace—in the Torah, or by the miracles that appeared at his hands—upon him be prayer and peace—and the signs that were revealed to him—upon him be prayer and peace. They are the Banu Qurayza and the Banu Nadir, or those who provided food on the day of Badr, and mention of them has already preceded. It is also said: people who turned hypocrite after they had believed. (They will not harm Allah) by their disbelief and their aversion (at all), meaning in any way, or any amount of harm. Or, they will not harm the Messenger of Allah—upon him be prayer and peace—by their opposition at all. The possessive noun has been omitted to exalt him—upon him be prayer and peace—by making the harm done to him and what befalls him as if it were attributed to Allah the Exalted; therein is an exaggeration of the heinousness of opposing him—upon him be prayer and peace. (And He will bring to naught their deeds) in the schemes they set up to invalidate His religion—the Exalted—and to oppose His Messenger—upon him be prayer and peace—so they shall not achieve through them what they desired of calamities, and they will yield them nothing but killing, expulsion from their homelands, and the like. It is also permitted that what is intended are the deeds they performed in their religion, for which they hoped for reward.
