Al-Fath: (8) "Indeed, We have sent you as a witness..."

(Indeed, We have sent you as a witness), meaning: over your nation, due to His saying, the Exalted: (And the Messenger may be a witness over you). Abd ibn Humayd and Ibn Jarir recorded from Qatadah: "A witness over your nation and a witness over the Prophets, peace be upon them, that they have indeed conveyed [the message]." (And a bringer of good tidings) of reward for obedience, (and a warner) of punishment for disobedience.
