Tafsir of Al-Ma'idah 5:56

(And whoever takes as an ally Allah and His Messenger and those who have believed): meaning, whoever takes them as allies. The explicit mention [of Allah] was preferred over the pronoun [in the phrase "His party"] in observance of the previously mentioned point: to clarify His—Exalted is He—primacy in guardianship (wilayah), as indicated by His, the Exalted’s, saying: (For indeed, the party of Allah—they are the predominant ones.)

(For indeed, the party of Allah—they are the predominant ones): The "party"—meaning the faction or group, absolutely, or the group that possesses strength—is attributed specifically to Him, the Exalted. In this, according to one perspective, there is also the use of an explicit noun in place of the pronoun referring back to "whoever" (i.e., "for they are the predominant ones"). However, they made them "the party of Allah, the Exalted," to exalt them and to establish their predominance through demonstrative reasoning. It is as if it were said: "And whoever takes these as allies, then they are the party of Allah, the Exalted, and they are the predominant ones."

The sentence is the evidence for the response [to the conditional] according to many grammarians.
