Qaf: (7) And the earth—We spread it out, and We cast therein...

"And the earth—We spread it out": We expanded it, and this does not contradict its sphericity—whether perfect or imperfect at the poles—due to its immense size.

"And We cast therein firm mountains": Stable mountains that prevent it from shaking, as is indicated by His saying, the Exalted, in another verse: "Firm mountains, lest it should shake with you." This is apparent in [affirming] the lack of movement of the earth. Some ancient philosophers and all contemporary philosophers have disagreed with this, and some Muslims from the Maghreb have agreed with them, claiming that it moves with daily rotation, including the elements within it, and they have invalidated the rational arguments of the ancients regarding its lack of movement. As to whether one who says this becomes a disbeliever: what prevails in [my] estimation is no.

"And We grew therein from every beautiful pair": A type that is delightful and brings joy to those who look upon it.
