Tafsir of Ad-Dhariyat 51:47

(And the heaven We constructed with strength) Meaning: And We constructed the heaven with strength. This was stated by Ibn Abbas, Mujahid, and Qatada, and the like is al-ayd. It is not the plural of yad (hand), although the Imam considered that permissible if the linguistic possibility for it is sound.

(And indeed, We are expanders) Meaning: We are indeed capable, derived from al-wus' in the sense of power. Thus, the sentence is a concluding supplement (tadhyil) establishing the vastness of His might—Exalted and Majestic is He—over everything, not just the heaven. In it is an allusion to the refutation of what is stated in His saying: "And no weariness touched Us."

Al-Hasan said: "(We are expanders) of provision through rain." It is as if he derived this from the fact that the context is one of bestowing grace upon the servants, rather than demonstrating mere power. Thus, it is as if His saying "(And the heaven We constructed with strength)" points back to what preceded: "And in the heaven is your provision," according to some interpretations. Consequently, it is appropriate to complete it with His saying: "(And indeed, We are expanders)" as an intensification of the bestowal. There is no need to interpret al-ayd as 'blessing' according to this view, as the intended meaning is fulfilled without it, and yad (in that context) would mean 'the blessing itself,' not the act of bestowing it.

It is also said: It means "We are expanders of it," such that the earth and what surrounds it of water and air are like a ring cast into a vast desert in comparison to it.

It is also said: It means "We are makers of vastness between it and the earth," with the intended meaning being spatial expansion. There is, according to these two views, also a form of completion.
