Tafsir of Ad-Dhariyat 51:48

"And the earth" (meaning: and We have spread the earth). "We have spread it" (meaning: We have leveled and flattened it so that you may settle upon it). This does not contradict its spherical resemblance, as is claimed by the philosophers of the age.

"And how excellent are the spreaders!" (meaning: We are).

Abu al-Summal, Mujahid, and Ibn Miqsam recited "the earth" in the nominative case (al-ardu), interpreting both [the earth and the heaven in the previous verse] as subjects, with what follows them acting as their predicates.
