Surah At-Tur 52:45

ﲱ ﲲ ﲳ ﲴ ﲵ ﲶ ﲷ

So leave them until they meet their Day in which they will be struck insensible -

(فذرهم) So leave them, meaning neglect them and do not be concerned with them. According to what is in *al-Bahr*, this is a command of *muwada'ah* (temporary truce), abrogated by the Verse of the Sword.

(حتى يلاقوا) Abu Haywah read *yalqaw*, the present tense of *laqa*.

(يومهم الذي فيه يصعقون) *Yus'aqun* (are struck down) is in the passive voice. This is the recitation of 'Asim, Ibn 'Amir, Zayd ibn 'Ali, and the people of Makkah, according to the narration of Shibl ibn 'Abbad—meaning, from the one whom the thunderbolt has struck, or whom the thunderbolt has caused to fall.

The majority, and the people of Makkah according to the narration of Isma'il, read yas'aqun (they strike down) with a fatha on the ya and the 'ayn. Al-Sulami read it with a damma on the ya and a kasra on the 'ayn, derived from as'aqa (the quadriliteral form).

The intended day is the Day of Badr. It has also been said that it refers to the time of the First Blast, for therein will be struck down whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth. This has been critiqued by the fact that only those alive at that time will be struck down, while these [the disbelievers addressed] will not be such [i.e., they will already be dead], and by the fact that His, the Exalted’s saying...
