Tafsir of At-Tur 52:8

It is a second predicate for "indeed" (inna), or an adjective for "that which is to occur" (waqi‘), or it is a parenthetical sentence. "A preventer" (dafi‘) is either a subject for the adverbial phrase, or it is raised by the adverbial phrase to the status of an active participle. The "from" (min) is an intensive particle added for emphasis. It is not hidden what is in the discourse regarding the confirmation of the judgment and its establishment.

It has been narrated that Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) recited from the beginning of the Surah up to this point, then he wept, and continued to weep until he fell ill from his distress, and he remained so for twenty days.

Ahmad, Sa‘id ibn Mansur, and Ibn Sa‘d narrated from Jubayr ibn Mut‘im, who said: "I came to Medina to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to speak with him regarding the captives of Badr. I arrived while he was leading his companions in the Maghrib prayer, and I heard him reciting: ‘By the Mount (At-Tur)... until: Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is to occur; there is no preventer for it.’ It was as if my heart had split open." In one narration: "So I embraced Islam for fear that the punishment would descend, and I did not think I would stand from my place until the punishment occurred." This does not preclude the possibility that the intended meaning is the occurrence on the Day of Resurrection.

Among the strange stories told is that a person saw five "waw" letters written on his palm, and it was interpreted for him as something good. He asked Ibn Sirin, who said: "Prepare yourself for that which will not please you." He asked him: "From where did you derive this?" He replied: "From His saying (Exalted is He): ‘By the Mount (At-Tur)...’ until: ‘Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is to occur.’" Not two or three days passed before that person was seized.
