And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed.
Tafsir
Verse range: 53:10
(Then He revealed), meaning Gabriel, peace be upon him, (to His servant), meaning the servant of Allah, who is the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. The pronoun is implicit despite no prior mention of him—the Exalted—because of his extreme manifestness. Many similar examples exist in speech, such as: "And if Allah were to impose blame on the people for what they have earned, He would not leave upon the earth any creature," and His saying, may He be glorified: "Indeed, We sent it down during the Night of Decree."
(what He revealed), meaning that which he revealed. The hidden pronoun here also refers to Gabriel, peace be upon him. The vagueness of what was revealed is for the purpose of magnification; this is analogous to the saying of the Exalted: "And there covered them from the sea that which covered them."
Abu Zayd said: The hidden pronoun refers to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, meaning: Gabriel revealed to the servant of Allah that which Allah had revealed to Gabriel. The first [view] is narrated from al-Hasan, and it is the best. It is also said: The pronoun in both the first and second "revealed" refers to Allah, the Exalted, and the "servant" refers to Gabriel, peace be upon him—and this [view], as you can see, is far-fetched.
