"Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter"—and in what it contains of punishment for what they engage in of disbelief and sins—"name the angels"—who are transcendently free from the attributes of imperfection in an absolute sense—"with the naming of the female."

For they used to say: "The angels are the daughters of Allah," exalted and high is He above what they say.

"The angels" is in the sense of the singular encompassing the genus, so the estimation is: "they name every one of the angels with the naming of the female," meaning they name him "a daughter." For when they said that, they made every one of them a daughter. The discourse is on the pattern of [the expression]: "The Emir clothed us in a robe," meaning he clothed every one of us in a robe. The singular is used because there is no confusion [in meaning]. For this reason, it was not said "the naming of the females," so there is no need to interpret "the female" (al-untha) as "the females" (al-inath), nor for the intended meaning to be the feminine group.

What was mentioned first is predicated on the fact that "the naming of the female" in the Majestic Order is not an accusative of comparison (tashbih); otherwise, there is no need for it either.

In connecting the naming [of the angels as females] to the lack of belief in the Hereafter is an indication that it is of such repulsiveness, hideousness, and consequence of punishment in the Hereafter that none would dare to commit it except one who does not believe in it at all.
