Tafsir
Verse range: 53:5
(His teacher) — the pronoun refers to the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the second object is omitted; meaning: the Qur’an or the Revelation. Abu Hayyan permitted that the pronoun refers to the Qur’an, and that the first object is omitted; meaning: the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, taught it.
(Possessing intense strength) — He is Gabriel, peace be upon him, as stated by Ibn Abbas, Qatada, and Al-Rabi’. For he is the intermediary in manifesting extraordinary miracles. It is sufficient evidence of his intense strength that he uprooted the villages of the people of Lot from the black water beneath the earth, carried them upon his wing, raised them to the sky, and then overturned them. He also emitted a single cry against the Thamud, and they became [as if they had never been] fallen, prone within their homes. His descent upon the prophets, peace be upon them, and his ascent were faster than the blinking of an eye; by my life, he is faster than the movement of the sunlight, according to what they have established in modern philosophy.
