(This is a warner from the first warners). The reference is to the Quran. Abu Malik said: It refers to the accounts of past nations, or the reference is to the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

"Warner" (nadhir) can function as both an infinitive (masdar) and an adjective (sifah), and "warners" (nudhur) is its plural in the absolute sense. Both interpretations are possible here. The description "warners" (nudhur)—in the plural—is used to qualify "the first ones" (al-ula) based on an interpretation of it as a group or sect. This form was chosen over others to observe the rhyme scheme (fasilah). Regardless of which interpretation is taken, the intended meaning is: "This is a warner from the genus of the first warners."

In al-Kashf, it is stated that His saying: "This is a warner..." etc., is a summary of the discourse, either regarding the matters contained in the [previous] scriptures or regarding the entire discourse from the beginning of the chapter. Ponder this, and do not be heedless.
