Tafsir
Verse range: 54:51
"And We have already destroyed your likes"—that is, those among the past nations who were similar to you in disbelief. The word’s original root is the plural of shi'ah (sect/faction), referring to those followers by whom a person finds strength. Since they were mostly of the same kind, what was mentioned [as likeness] is intended, either by using the term for its necessary implication or by way of metaphor, with the context serving as an indicator for that. It is also said: It remains upon its literal meaning—that is, your followers.
"Is there, then, any who will receive admonition?"—that is, anyone who will take heed from that.
