Al-Waqi'ah: (30) "And [in] extended shade"

"And [in] extended shade."

Ahmad, al-Bukhari, Muslim, al-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Marduyah recorded from Abu Sa'id that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "In Paradise, there is a tree in whose shade a rider travels for one hundred years without reaching its end; that is the extended shade."

Ibn Abi Hatim and Ibn Marduyah recorded from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "The extended shade is a tree in Paradise upon a trunk; its shade is such that a rider travels in all its directions for one hundred years. The people of Paradise, the dwellers of the high chambers and others, go out to it and converse in its shade. Some of them desire and recall the amusements of the world, so Allah Almighty sends a wind from Paradise that moves that tree with every amusement that was in the world."

Mujahid said: "This shade is from its lote trees and its banana trees."

'Abd ibn Humayd, Ibn Jarir, and Ibn al-Mundhir recorded from 'Amr ibn Maymun that he said: "The extended shade is a journey of seventy thousand years."
