56: This is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense.

This—that is, what has been mentioned of the various types of torment—is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. If this is their "accommodation"—which is what is presented to a guest upon arrival from whatever is at hand—then what is your assumption regarding what is permanently established for them as a dwelling, and where they will find their abode in the Fire?

In designating it as an "accommodation" (nuzul), despite it being a term used for the honor shown to a guest, there is a clear element of sarcasm. A parallel to this is the poet’s saying: "And when the tyrant came to us with an army, we prepared for him spears and sharp blades as an 'accommodation'."

Ibn Muhaysin, Kharijah (from Nafi’), Nu’aym, Mahbub, Abu Zayd, Harun, ‘Ismah, and ‘Abbas—all of whom report from Abu ‘Amr—read it as nuzluhum with a sukun on the letter zay (which has a damma) for the purpose of lightening the pronunciation, as is done in the aforementioned verse.

The sentence is presented by Him, Glory be to Him, by way of summation, confirming the content of the instructed speech and is not included under the [command of] speech.
