*Al-Wāqiʿah: (66) Indeed, we are [now] burdened with loss*
(Indeed, we are burdened with loss)
Meaning: we are tormented, destroyed. It is derived from al-gharām (the ruin). The poet said: "If he torments, it is 'ruin' (gharāman), and if he gives generously, he does not care."
The intended meaning is: we are destroyed by the ruin of our sustenance. It is also said: we are destroyed by our sins, or we are compelled to pay a fine due to the loss of our sustenance.
Al-Aʿmash, al-Jaḥdarī, and Abū Bakr read it as A-innā (are we indeed?), using interrogation and confirmation. Under both readings, the sentence is in the position of the accusative as a state (ḥāl) from the subject of tafakkahūn (you lament/marvel); meaning: saying [that], or you say that.
