Then will We treat the Muslims like the criminals?

Verse range: 68:35

35: Shall We then make the Muslims like the criminals?

This is a substantiation of what preceded it regarding the triumph of the God-fearing, and a rebuttal to what the disbelievers say upon hearing the discourse about the Hereafter and what Allah the Exalted has promised: "If it is true that we shall be resurrected as Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and those with him claim, our state and their state will be no different than it is in this world; they would not surpass us, nor would they be superior to us, and the utmost of their claim is that we would be equal."

The interrogative particle (al-hamza) is for denial, and the connective particle (al-fa) is for conjunction with an implied [proposition] necessitated by the discourse, meaning: "Shall He then act unjustly in judgment and make the Muslims like the disbelievers?" Then it is said to them, by way of shift (iltifat) to emphasize the rebuttal and make it more severe.
