ﲙ ﲚ ﲛ ﲜ ﲝ
But it is not except a reminder to the worlds.
Tafsir
Verse range: 68:52
Regarding [the phrase] being a state (ḥāl) from the subject of "they say": the connector is either the [conjunction] waw alone, or it implies the generality of the worlds, as has been said, which is useful for the ultimate refutation of their statement and serves to astonish the listeners at their audacity in daring to utter such an enormity. That is, they say that while it is [in fact] a Reminder to the worlds, meaning a source of admonition and an exposition of all that they require concerning the affairs of their religion. Thus, how far is that which has been sent down to him—while he is cognizant of all its mysteries and encompasses all of its truths—from what they have said!
It has been said that its meaning is "honor and virtue," based on the saying of the Exalted, "And indeed, it is a remembrance for you and your people," and it is for the generality of the worlds due to the attention it gives to what benefits them. It has also been said that the pronoun refers to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and that he is a reminder and an honor to the worlds is beyond doubt. It is argued that the sentence, according to this interpretation, becomes explicit in refuting their false claim. Yet, you know that the first [interpretation] is more appropriate, and Allah, the Exalted, knows best.
