{He is in a pleasant life}

Abu Ubaidah and Al-Farra’ said: It means “pleasing” (mardiyyah). More than one scholar has said: It means “possessing satisfaction,” based on the premise that it is of the category of attribution (nisbah) via the morphological form [of the fa’il], similar to labin (possessor of milk) and tamir (possessor of dates). The meaning of “possessing satisfaction” is that it is characterized by satisfaction, thus it also carries the meaning of “pleasing” (mardiyyah).

An objection was raised against this: that which is intended for attribution is not rendered feminine, as Al-Radi and others have explicitly stated, yet here it is feminine. Therefore, this interpretation is not valid unless it is said that the ta (the feminine suffix) in it is for intensification—though there is some discussion regarding this.

Some verifiers have said: The truth is that their intent is that what is intended for attribution does not necessitate the feminine form, even if it occasionally occurs contrary to the prevailing principle.

It is well-known to interpret what was mentioned as a figurative attribution (majaz fi al-isnad). The fundamental meaning is: “He is in a life whose owner is satisfied,” but the satisfaction was attributed to the life itself because, due to its constant purity from blemishes, it is as if the life itself is satisfied. It is also permitted that it contains a metaphorical or imaginative comparison (isti’arah makniyyah wa takhyiliyyah), as detailed in the lengthy works of rhetoric (ma’ani).
