ﳁ ﳂ ﳃ ﳄ ﳅ
My wealth has not availed me.
ﳁ ﳂ ﳃ ﳄ ﳅ
My wealth has not availed me.
Tafsir
Verse range: 69:28
It means: My wealth did not avail me anything of what I possessed in the worldly life, such as wealth and similar things like followers.
This is based on the premise that mā (ما) in mā aghnā (ما أغنى) is negative, and mā in māliyah (ماليه) is a relative pronoun acting as the subject of aghnā (أغنى), with its object being omitted. The lām and yā’ (ليه) constitute a preposition and a genitive pronoun, which are in the place of the relative clause. It is also permissible to consider māliyah (ماليه) as a noun meaning "wealth" appended to the first-person possessive pronoun (yā’ al-mutakallim). The first interpretation is more evident in its inclusion of followers and the like, as that cannot be achieved in the second interpretation except by way of implication.
It is also permissible that the mā (ما) in mā aghnā (ما أغنى) is interrogative, intended for denial, given both possibilities for māliyah (ماليه). Thus, it would mean: "What thing has my wealth availed me?"
