Al-Ḥāqqah: (8) "Then do you see any remnant of them?"

"Then do you see any remnant (bāqiyah) of them?" That is, a remainder, on the basis that al-bāqiyah is a noun like al-baqiyyah [remainder], not an adjective, and the tā’ [at the end of the word] is for transitioning the word into a noun; or it is the adjective itself, bāqiyah [remaining], on the basis that the described noun is implied and the tā’ is for the feminine gender.

Ibn al-Anbari said: It means "remaining" (bāqin), and the [letter] ha’ is for intensiveness. It is also permitted that it be an infinitive (maṣdar)—like al-ṭāghiyah [the transgression] and al-kādhibah [the lie]—meaning a remnant/survival, with the tā’ denoting the unit [of action].
