Tafsir of Al-A'raf 7:125

(They said: Verily, unto our Lord we are returning) - This is an explanatory resumption. That is, we are returning to His mercy—glorified be He—and His reward if you do that to us, so how excellent that would be!

Ibn Abi Hatim narrated from Ibn Jubayr that when the sorcerers fell prostrate, they saw their dwellings being built for them. He also narrated from al-Awza'i that Paradise was raised for them until they looked upon it.

It is possible that they meant: We must inevitably die, so there is no harm in what you threaten us with, for the appointed time is inevitable and cannot be delayed from its destined hour. And whoever does not die by the sword dies by something else; the causes are many, but death is one.

It is also possible that the meaning is: We are all returning to Allah the Exalted, so He will judge between us. We are going to the Judge of the Day of Judgment, and with Allah, the disputants shall gather.

The plural pronoun in the first interpretation refers only to the sorcerers; in the third, it refers to both them and Pharaoh; and in the second, it is open to both possibilities.
