(Said the eminent ones [al-mala’] among his people): This is an inception based on a question arising from the narration of his—peace be upon him—statement and his sincere advice to his people, as if it were said: "What did they say after what was said to them?" Thus, it was said: "Said, etc."

The mala’, according to al-Farra’, refers specifically to a group of men. Others interpreted it as the nobles who fill hearts with their majesty, eyes with their beauty, and assemblies with their followers. It is also said: They were called mala’ because they are mali’un (capable/abundant), able to fulfill what is required of them regarding the adequacy of affairs.

(We surely see you in clear error): That is, a departure from the path of truth. The perception here is cognitive (of the heart), and its two objects are the pronoun and the adverbial phrase. It is also said that it is visual, in which case the adverbial phrase is in the position of a state (hal).

(Manifest): That is, its status as error is evident.
