ﲧ ﲨ ﲩ ﲪ ﲫ ﲬ ﲭ ﲮ ﲯ ﲰ ﲱ ﲲ ﲳ ﲴ ﲵ ﲶ ﲷ ﲸ ﲹ ﲺ
And if there should be a group among you who has believed in that with which I have been sent and a group that has not believed, then be patient until Allah judges between us. And He is the best of judges."
Tafsir
Verse range: 7:87
{And if a party among you has believed in that with which I have been sent}—meaning the religious laws and ordinances—{and a party has not believed}—in it, or have not performed the act of belief—{then be patient until Allah judges between us.}
This address is directed toward the disbelievers, and it is a threat to them; meaning, wait and see how Allah the Exalted will judge between us and you, for He, Glory be to Him, will grant victory to the one who is in the right over the one who is in the wrong, and will make him prevail over him.
Alternatively, it is an address to the believers, serving as an exhortation to them and an incitement to patience and to enduring the harm that was being inflicted upon them by the polytheists, until Allah the Exalted judges between them and takes vengeance for them upon them.
It is also possible that it is an address to both factions, meaning: let the believers be patient regarding the harm of the disbelievers, and let the disbelievers be patient regarding what distresses them of the faith of those who have believed among them, until He judges and distinguishes the foul from the good.
The manifest view is the first possibility; the intent being that the faith of some does not benefit you in warding off the affliction and punishment of Allah the Exalted.
{And He is the best of judges}, for there is no one who can reverse His judgment, nor is there any injustice in it; it is at the ultimate peak of correctness.
