Al-Ma'arij: (36) So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve...

"So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve before you"—meaning, in the direction adjacent to you.

"Hastening"—rushing toward you, stretching their necks toward you, and directing their gazes upon you, in order to seize what they make a mockery of.
