Furthermore, know that some of the Sufis of this time have mentioned concerning this day, whose duration God Almighty has informed us is fifty thousand years, that the ranks are four: the Dominion (al-mulk), the Sovereignty (al-malakut), the Power (al-jabarut), and the Divinity (al-lahut). Each higher rank encompasses the one below it and exceeds it by ten degrees, for that is the perfection of the rank; because God created things from ten grasps—meaning from the mystery of the ten ranks of the nine spheres and the elements in every world according to its nature. Thus, the numerical ranks were ordered upon the four, and the thousand is the finality of the ranks and the ultimate end.
Since the relation to the Lord—that is, to the direction of the Truth—is the ultimate end in relation to everything else ("And to your Lord is the finality"), a single day attributed to Him was a thousand. Therefore, the Lordly day was a thousand years, as He, the Exalted, said: "And indeed, a day with your Lord is like a thousand years of those which you count."
When the universe ascends and wisdom necessitates the emergence of the other creation and the manifestation of the effects of the Supreme Name in the station of Lordship at the level of the Universal (al-jami'), the universe, the universes, and the created things appeared in a single gathering according to their ranks in the realities. Thus, the mystery of the Nun (N) from the word "Kun" (Be!) appeared for the manifestation of "Fayakun" (Then it is). Thus, the fifty appeared in the return just as it descended in the beginning, which is His saying, the Exalted: "As He began you, so will you return." Therefore, a single day upon the manifestation of the Supreme Name in the Universal Direction became fifty thousand years. The thousand is for the elevation of the one; and since the ranks were fifty, it became fifty thousand.
The fifty are the details of the manifestation of the name "the Lord" (al-Rabb) upon the manifestation of the name "Allah" in the world of Command (al-amr), which is the first of the levels of detailing in His, the Exalted's, saying "Be!" The first emergence of detail was fifty, because the Oneness (al-tawhid) manifested in the point, the alif, the letter, the complete word, and the sign—which is the completion of the five—only existed in the ten worlds of determinations. Or, because the four natures, with the attainment of the temperament through the appearance of a fifth nature—by which the five is completed—only existed in ten worlds according to their nature. Thus, the total was fifty.
The ten worlds are: the world of possibility (al-imkan), the world of the heart’s center (al-fu'ad), the world of the heart (al-qalb), the world of the intellect (al-'aql), the world of the spirit (al-ruh), the world of the self (al-nafs), the world of nature (al-tabi'ah), the world of matter (al-maddah), the world of images (al-mithal), and the world of bodies (al-ajsam). The fifty in the face of the Lord and the direction of the Truth in the first world—which is the last—becomes fifty thousand years.
Thus, if you grasp a correct meaning from this that those of intellect can accept, and which is not rejected by tradition, then that is it. Otherwise, praise God Almighty for well-being and ask Him, the Mighty and Majestic, for the success to reach the landmarks of verification. The Greatest Master (al-Shaykh al-Akbar), may his secret be sanctified, also has discourse on this station; whoever desires it, let him pursue his books and ask God Almighty for openings. He, the Exalted, is the Guardian of all gifts.
