So endure with a beautiful patience

So endure with a beautiful patience: This is derived from and related to His saying, "A questioner asked..."—a conceptual connection, for the questioning was one of mockery, stubbornness, and disbelief, based on the assumption that the questioner was al-Nadr and his likes; such things would distress the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Or, it was a questioning born of distress and impatience for victory, based on the assumption that it was the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who was the questioner. It is as if it were said: "So be patient and do not hasten, for what is promised shall inevitably come to pass." The meaning holds in this manner as well according to the reading of those who read sala sa'il (a flow flowed) as sayl (a torrent).

However, its derivation from sa'ala (to ask) is not apparent if the questioner were Noah, peace be upon him.

As for "beautiful patience," it is, according to what al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi recorded in Nawadir al-Usul from Ibn Abbas: that which contains no complaint to anyone other than Allah Almighty. And Abd al-A’la ibn al-Hajjaj recorded that it is when the one struck by a calamity is among a people in such a state that they do not know who he is.
