That is, in terms of possibility. The expression is used by way of stylistic correspondence (mushakala), as it has been said regarding the pronoun in "We see it" (narahu), for it is possible, and there is no meaning in describing the possible as being "near to possibility" since it is already encompassed by it. The intended meaning is to describe it as possible—that is, "And We see it as possible." This is according to the first interpretation regarding the phrase "they see it as far," or [it means] "We see it as near to occurring," and this is according to the second interpretation.

It may also be said—even regarding the first interpretation—that they see it as far from being possible, while We see it as near to occurring, let alone possible. Perhaps this is more appropriate than interpreting it as "possibility" in both clauses.

The sentence "Indeed, they see it..." and so on is a justification for the command to be patient. It has been said that if the one seeking haste is Al-Nadr and his likes, then the sentence is independent (mustan'afa), explaining the misconception behind their mockery and providing an answer to it. If it refers to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, then it is a justification for what is implied in the command to be patient—namely, to cease seeking haste—in that Our seeing it as near necessitates trust and the abandonment of haste.
