Say, [O Muhammad], "I only invoke my Lord and do not associate with Him anyone."

Tafsir
Verse range: 72:20
Say: "I only invoke [i.e., worship] my Lord, and I do not associate anyone with Him in worship." This is neither a novelty nor something reprehensible that necessitates astonishment or a unanimous conspiracy against my enmity.
Most [reciters] read it as "Qala" (He said), based on it being a narration from Allah Almighty of what the Prophet—may Allah Almighty bless him and grant him peace—said to those who crowded upon him, or a narration from the Jinn to him upon their return to their people; so do not be heedless.
