And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life].
Tafsir
Verse range: 74:14
I expanded his leadership and broad status, and I perfected My favor upon him. Status and wealth—their combination is perfection in the view of the people of the world. The origin of tamhid (spreading/leveling) is the act of leveling and preparing; it is used metaphorically here to refer to the expansion of wealth and status. Because of the abundance of his wealth and the splendor of his condition—which was attractive in both sight and reputation—he was nicknamed "The Basil of Quraysh." Likewise, they used to title him "The Unique," meaning the one singular in his entitlement to leadership.
It is reported from Ibn Abbas: "I expanded for him that which is between Yemen and Syria." And from Mujahid: "I spread out wealth for him, one layer upon another, just as a bed is spread."
