"This is nothing but the word of a human being." This serves as a confirmation of the first statement, for the intent of both is to negate that it is the Quran or the speech of Allah, the Exalted, even if they differ in meaning. The fact that the second was not conjoined to the first [with a conjunction] does not affect the intended purpose. Some have termed this "confirmation" without using a simile. The matter concerning the description of the problematic issues through which he reached this absurd conclusion is intended as mockery, and an indication that he is far removed from the clear, manifest truth. Furthermore, what becomes apparent from examining the circumstances of al-Walid is that his stance stemmed from stubbornness and pre-Islamic fervor, not from ignorance of the reality of the situation.
