So the intercession of the intercessors shall not benefit them, even if all of them were to intercede for them; for the statement is based on a hypothetical assumption. It is well-known that this is in the vein of the saying: "And you will not see a lizard dwelling in it," and it is most appropriate for the context to interpret the definite article (in al-shafi'in) as signifying totality.
