Al-Muddaththir: 53

"Nay, but they do not fear the Hereafter."

"Nay" is a refutation of their desire and a rebuke to them for proposing signs [to be granted to them], for they do not fear the Hereafter. It is for this reason that they turn away from the reminder, not because of any impossibility in the granting of the scrolls or the fulfillment of what they proposed, as they claim. Abu Haywah recited it as takhafuna (you do not fear), employing a shift to the second-person address.
